The West Coast Rally Association puts on a series of novice events. These are shorter versions of the regional TSD series and introduce the competitor to all the aspects of rallying without the time and expense of the major series.

We will have a WCRA Novice Series for 2009 that will consist of 3 events. Series standings will be based on results from all 3 events and final results will be posted on Rally BC . We have already received a significant Prize donation package from Team Atlantic and Atlantic Driving Schools and we will continue to work with other sponsors to develop the series. Any and all suggestions and comments will be considered.

This is a training and development series, so you should expect that the events will be shorter and a bit slower than a regional event. All the events will be one day events, no longer than say 6 hours, so you can travel to them and get home the same day. They will be daylight only so no extra lights are required. For the 2 gravel events, we will make every effort to identify and give you time to slow down for any rough spots, so any car or truck with stock suspension will be perfectly suitable, and no car preparation will be required. For the 2 events in Merritt, we will run a free rally school on the morning of the events (on a request basis) for any competitors that have not ran a rally before, or ones that need some questions answered or a refresher.

Eligibility
The rallies are open to anyone who may wish to enter. However to score points for the series, both driver and navigator must have ran no more than 2 previous rallies as of January 1, 2009. Teams can change for each event and both drivers and navigators will be scored individually. There are no residency or club membership requirements.
Classes

There will be one class, and that is calculator. (which is called Equipped for Sno_Git 6 ) No unlimited equipment is allowed. There will be no paper class as we feel you need all the help, i.e. calculators, GPS, accessory odometers etc when you are just starting, and once you learn the basics you can move onto doing it with just paper and pencil. This should make the events simple and fair for all. There is a wide range of equipment allowed in calculator class. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. We will accept entries for the rallies in the other classes however they will not be awarded series points

Events

June 28th Vancouver Impreza Club Novice Rally Merritt BC (organized by WCRA)
July 18th Sno_Git 6 Rally Marysville, Washington
October 18th World Rally Sport Novice Rally Merritt BC (organized by WCRA)

Sno_Git 6 is a well established rally organized and sanctioned by ORCA and run under similar rules as WCRA events. The course will use paved roads and will not contain traps. It will last about 5 hours, encompassing scenic areas of Snohomish and Skagit counties. This is a terrific event for both the novice and experienced competitor; whether they are driving a sports car or the family sedan. All instructions for this event will be in miles only, are prepared for the conversion to kilometers if that is what your odometer reads in. More details on the event will be available in early June.

To add interest, the 2 gravel events in Merritt will be using some of the roads used in the stage events, Mountain Trials and Pacific Forest Rally (our BC event in the Canadian Rally Championship). No recce allowed for future stage events.

The proposed time schedule for the two events in Merritt will be as follows:

Registration and tech 10:00 am to 11:30 am Best Western Hotels in Merritt
Drivers meeting 12:00 pm
Start 12:30 pm
Finish 6:00 pm Boston Pizza in Merritt
Results/awards 7:00 pm
Entry fee for Merritt events $ 40.00

Prizes

Team Atlantic and Atlantic Driving School Prize donation package
1
Draw for all novices entered in the last event for 5 nights/days in Laughlin Nevada including hotel and free meals
2
1st overall in all 3 rallies. Free entry to Thunderbird Rally 2010 Value $180 as part of Team Atlantic.
3
All entrants in the first 2 rallies get $25 discount for entry to Gold Digger Rally July 25th.
4
Last 2 novice teams in each of the first 2 rallies get free entry to next rally (Value $40 each)
As there was no Novice series last year, we have a large number of people that still meet the novice eligibility requirements, so we would hope you find this series interesting and a good place to gain some more experience and confidence. Come on out and enjoy the fun and chat it up with the other novices. We are doing this series "just" so you have a place to develop your skills and a place where you can compete against competitors with the same level of experience.
We will open a thread on "Special stage Canada West rally message Forum" and World Rally Sport.com for discussion and questions, as well as early expression of interest in the series. If you like, you can contact the series co-ordinator directly at email Jim Bowie <jim.bowie57@gmail.com>
Hope to see you at one or all of the novice events.
