2004 All Japan Rally Championship 2WD
Round 1 - April 9/11, 2004
by Brian Wende - Car 31
I will be co-driving in the Nanayama Rally, an all tarmac event which is the first round of the All Japan National Rally Championship on April 9-11. The rally is on Kyushu Island and in Saga Prefecture. The rally will begin on Friday(9) with reece, and the rally will officially start on Saturday(10) and finish Sunday(11). This rally is the first round of the 2wd Championship, and is expecting 50-60 cars.

The car that we will be using is a 2wd Honda Integra Type R, and will compete in B-class. The driver is Toshihiro Takeshita of the Matsuyama Auto Club. Special thanks to Dunlop Tires and Hart Wheels who have been very supportive. Over the past few months, there has been much practice of the notes, as well as getting the car dialed up for this rally.

Post Event Report: The rally was so cool, tarmac rallies are fun for both the driver and co-driver. There was 45 cars entered the Nanayama Rally. Reece was on Friday and it went great. Saturday, the event officially started, with 17 stages..Day 1 had 13 stages.

Day 1: Leg 1, (4SS) - The car was quick, since this was the first rally, the first few stages went well without incident.
Leg 2, (5SS) - Stage 5 was cancelled, two cars went off. We got to drive the stage at a slower speed, to get to stage 6, which gave us a chance to check the notes as we would run this stage later in the evening. During stage 6, we had problems with 3rd gear and lost some time.
Leg 3, (4SS) - Service was great and got the car fixed and ready for the night stages, which went good. After Day 1, we were at 14th position.
Day 2: Leg 1 (4SS) - These stages were a repeat of Leg 1 on Day 1, and we were very quick, and made back some time that we lost on Day 1, and finished the rally in 12th position.

Overall, I had a wicked time at the rally, it definetely was a learning experience and I am looking forward to the next rally! I would like to thank the Matsuyama Auto Club (MAC), Dunlop and Hart Wheels for their great service during the rally. My next rally will be next weekend, which is a regional event. I will be co-driving in car 0, to make pace notes, as this event will be part of the All Japan Rally Championship in June.
